The Evening Conservatory is a one year program, with the option of a second year of training if both the administration and the students feel it is appropriate, designed for the student actor who wants a cohesive, intensive program, but cannot commit to a 30-hour a week daytime program. Classes meet at night Monday through Friday, 18-20 hours per week. The studio takes in a new class in January and September of every year.

The First Year

The first year of the program focuses on providing students a foundation from which to grow through a firm acting technique, voice and speech work, movement and physical exploration as well as contemporary and classical scene work. Students will develop a facile and responsive body, a strong and clear voice, and clear understanding of the Adler Technique. The first year ends with a performance of a play, open to the public.

The Second Year

The second year concentrates on applying the tools learned in the first year through intense contemporary and classical scene work with continued voice and speech work and an exploration of physical acting. Also, students have an ongoing class on preparing for the profession with renowned actor and director, Peter Flynn, with additional industry guests throughout the class. The second year culminates with the performance of a play, open to the public, and an Industry Showcase.

Admission Information

Admission to either conservatory program is by interview and audition. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and must submit the following:

A completed application form.

Two letters of recommendation, including the referee’s address and telephone number. The letters should be from teacher or persons who can supply a recommendation as to the applicant’s character and potential. Referees may be contacted directly.

A $50 non-refundable application fee (payable to The Ron Burrus Studio, Inc).

Headshot and Resume.

The audition should consist of two monologues, one classical and one contemporary, no longer than two minutes each. Phone Interviews and DVD Auditions are acceptable, if necessary. After the interview and audition have taken place, applicants will be formally notified phone regarding their acceptance in the program.

*prices, curriculum, and faculty subject to change
